Niagara Falls By Night

Lovely photos of Niagara at night! The one night we were there the conditions weren't that good, and I'm still struggling with night shots like this. Needless to say, my photos aren't anywhere near as good as yours!

Thank you for your nice comments, Elaine, but I’m sure you will get the same effects as I do if you use my type of “dark room.” If you look at the history of Ansel Adams, of course without any comparison, he was an average photographer, but a master in his dark room. I’m not a master, but make my photos “look-able” working them over in Adobe Lightroom and different plugins to get an effect I think is usable. :) One of these days I will show a night photo before and after treatment.

Thank you for stopping by.

I would be interested in your opinion of Lightroom. I am currently in the process of doing a few upgrades, the first being to a new computer. I am also trying to decide whether to upgrade my Photoshop Elements 8 to 9, or whether to get Lightroom 3, or both. My biggest concern right now is with organization, and while I am happy with PE's organization, I think the number of photos I have is bogging it down and making it run very slow, but then again that may just be my old computer. I'm also concerned with the problems of converting all my tags to a new program. I've been reading various reviews, etc., but if you have any thoughts on the subject I'd be interested in hearing them.

Elaine, in answer to your question, I have used Lightroom since the first day it came out. I was a little skeptical when it first came since I had been using Photoshop (from version 7 till today’s CS5), but I found out that Lightroom had what Photoshop did not and when you have 100,000+ images. Lightroom is a good organizer and a lot more. I also use PE-9, but only for handling small video clips.

If you decide to buy Lightroom 3, I recommend the 5 hours training CD “Lightroom 3 In Depth” with Matt Kloskowski. I’m sure there are other training CDs out there too, but since I’m a member of NAPP (photoshopuser.com) I get most of my information from them and the member prices are pretty good. :)

Thanks for your input. I am leaning towards trying Lightroom when I get my new computer and probably upgrading to PE9 too. I do have 80,000 some images, but I need to go back and do a lot of deletion.
